Don’t Blame Your Mom!

It’s simply common sense that a mother’s diet during pregnancy will have a powerful influence on the health of her unborn child.  But a recent study has shown that mom’s nutrition during pregnancy can actually cause genetic changes in her child that increase their risk of obesity during childhood.

My first reaction to this article, was, “Is there no end to what we, as moms will be blamed for?”  It seems no matter what we do, somewhere down the road, it will be found to be wrong and we are to blame for the effect on our children.

But as I calmed down and continued reading – it just highlighted the importance of eating a healthy diet – in every stage of life – and especially during pregnancy.  We, as moms have the critical responsibility of doing all we can to ensure our children’s health and well-being.  Science discovers new truths daily.

I stand on the scripture in Romans 8:1 that says there is NO condemnation for us who are in Christ Jesus.  That means I don’t have to beat myself up for not eating better when I was pregnant with my 3 children.  I certainly didn’t do a perfect job and I’m sure you didn’t either.  However, as I have come to know better – I have done better.  I believe as long as we keep learning and improving – God is pleased and will bless our efforts.

If you know a young woman who is planning to start a family in the near (or even not so near) future – share this with her.

We can also teach our daughters, from young, how to eat a balanced diet. That way, when they are pregnant, they will automatically eat healthy.

That’s exactly the point! Rather than beat ourselves up – let’s encourage our daughters and sisters and anyone and everyone we can to eat a healthy, balanced diet. We can impact generations to come!
